Gordon Greenbeans

I learned to cook green beans from my mother-in-law, Debbie Gordon. They are a staple at every holiday meal now. The kids and grown-ups alike enjoy them. The recipe can be doubled or tripled easily for a big crowd. This would serve about six people.

1/2 medium onion
3 strips of bacon or 2 chicken or beef bouillon cubes
3 cans of green beans

Saute the onion and bacon/ bouillon on a sauce pan until tender (If you use bouillon you will need to add a bit of olive oil to the onion). Add green beans. Add water until covered. Boil on medium heat until cooked down. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve.

* For a big meal you can cook the beans early then place them in the crock pot until time for the meal.

Nana's Pumkin Pie

This recipe as passed down from Jamie Foster and Wanda Foster to Jane Stauffer Foster in 1973 at Jane's wedding shower. This is made every year at the Foster-Stauffer Thanksgiving.

This recipe is doubled for 2 pies.
4 eggs - whole (do not beat)
1 cup sugar (heaping)
2 t. cinnamin
1 pinch of ginger
1/2 t. nutmeg

Mix ingredients. Add 2 cups pumpkin (canned) and 4 cups milk (use 2 cans 12 oz Pets Evaporated Milk and finish off with whole milk). Add milk gradually. Put in uncooked pie shell. Bake for 10 minutes at 450F then bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350F.

Here is a picture of the pies before they go in the oven.
